The Miniature Australian Shepherd is a wonderful and loyal companion. They are devoted to their humans and are constantly seeking to please. They are gentle with children, they accept other pets into their pack and are easily trainable. They are delightful family dogs.
An Aussie needs to feel needed. They will not do well in an environment where they are ignored, but will thrive when they are treated as one of the family. Early socialization is very important with this breed. Due to their extreme loyalty, they will often be cautious around strangers, but with proper socialization, they will be accepting of anyone you deem as “ok”.
Typically, the Male Miniature Aussie ranges from 15” to 18” (25 to 40 pounds), the Female from 13” to 17” (15 to 30 pounds.) The Miniature Aussie is a hardy dog and does not need the pampering associated with many of the smaller breeds. They are very happy in the back yard during all types of weather, provided they have a nice, clean dog house with something comfortable to lie on. You should only be concerned during extreme weather conditions and act accordingly.
